What’s God’s Will?

Posted November 6th, 2009 by Tony

I’ve had quite a few of you ask me this week  “what’s God’s will for me?” It’s a great question and seemingly spiritual but what if we were to change it a little?

What if we simply asked “what’s God’s will?” (drop off the tiny last two words)

If we drop off the “for me” then we realize that we’re simply a part of God’s story, God’s purpose and God’s big plan. The idea of it having much to do with my opinion or desire is limiting. Instead of asking what God may want from you ’someday’ simply ask what he wants from you in the ‘next ten minutes.’

Promise it will change your passion for life. Amazing we get to be part of God’s story instead of trying to exhaustibly tie him to ours.

Don’t value self over God, find your value in selflessly following God.

One Response to “What’s God’s Will?”

I don’t think it’s possible to drop the “for me”. In Jeremiah 29:11 God didn’t say I know the plans I have… He said I know the plans I have ” for you”… God’s plan was not general. It was specific. Specific to a nation He brought out of Egypt or bondage by the power of His own hand. Same thing applies to us. He has called us out of this world (darkness) and delivered us from the power of sin and death by the same thing the power of His own hand through the resurrection of Jesus.
That being said then the question still remains: How do I know the will of God for me?
Listen to what the scripture says:
You shall know the truth and the truth will set you free. When we are asking to know God’s will we are usually wanting to know what does he want you to be doing. What job or task or area of ministry does He want you to serve in etc. This is where we often get lost. Why ? Because you are thinking about the physical work He will do through you before you have allowed for the transformation of your mind. Rom 12:2 Then you will know what His will is. Let’s walk through the bible.
Why are we here? Rom 7:4 to bear fruit for God.
What is God’s will? For you to be Holy. 1Thess 4:3
What do you have and how is it given? Everything and through the knowledge of Him. 2Pet 1:3-4
Why has he given it? So that we can partake in His devine nature.
How do we do it? By adding. 2Pet 1:5-8 This will keep us fruitful and useful in the knowledge.
What do you do once you have this holy way of life that we are called to? Titus2:11-3:11 Hope that helps. If you are in our neck of the woods join us in the Lake Elsinore bible study 7:30 pm Tuesday nights. Look us up on community groups @ Crossroadschurch.com
